Ambient Atmosphere — Venice Architecture Biennale 2025
Presented as part of the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale through the European Cultural Centre, Ambient Atmosphere explores architecture as an environmental and perceptual experience rather than a static object. The installation examines how light, material, enclosure, and spatial conditions shape the way architecture is understood and inhabited.
Developed by William Carpenter, FAIA, Chad Reineke, AIA, and James Burton, AIA, the project extends Lightroom’s ongoing interest in atmosphere, place, and the relationship between built form and human experience. Rather than presenting architecture solely through conventional drawings or representations, Ambient Atmosphere invites visitors to consider how architecture is felt—through changing conditions, layered perception, and moments of presence.
The exhibition was presented in Venice from May through November 2025 as part of the European Cultural Centre’s international architecture exhibition coinciding with the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia.
